The 853 km coastline of Sudan is home to a diverse ecosystem of Corals and Fish. There are 200 species of Coral along the coastline lined with multiple coral reefs along the coast, booming with life.
The 5 conditions needed for corals to survive are all available in Sudan. The water temperature is in-between 25-35 degrees Celsius throughout the year, there is reliable sunlight and clear saltwater. The water is clear and clean due to underdevelopment and untouched coastline, the Corals are in generally in very good health.
The Tourism and Diving industry is very under developed so pollution and damage from this has not occurred.
In and around the city of Port Sudan the water is not so clean because of development of the City and Port. There are not any consistent programmes to clean it up. This causing some Coral death from pollution in and around the Port area.
The entire coastline is spotted with Coral Reefs. The majority of the Coral has not been seen by man so therefore UNEP is trying to make it an Environmental Conservation Site.
Sanganeb Reef and Marine Park became a Unesco Natural Heritage site in 2016.
